Imagine a charming stone built holiday home set on its own fishing pier in sunny West Cork, Ireland. This nautically inspired seaside cottage is every fishing enthusiast’s dream. Wake up to the sound of the sea, watch your children fishing for crabs and buy lobster and prawns from local fishermen…the stuff holidays are made of!

This cottage is situated 12km from Blairscove House on the coast road to Goleen. Some say that this cottage used to be a shop; others say it was a dance hall and meeting point. When we bought it in the 80’s it was neither and in a rather deplorable condition. A lot of TLC and local craftsmanship made it what it is now: uncomplicated and fun, made for relaxation, cooking, eating and playing.

Dunmanus Pier is very close to a castle ruin with a small beach, and the sandy beaches of Barleycove and Ballyrisode are just a short drive away and your nearest town with shops and pubs is Schull.

The cottage is open plan, with a kitchen, dining and living area and an open mezzanine twin room upstairs. The house has good mobile coverage and WiFi. The TV is small, but there are plenty of board games, jigsaws and books, as well as a cosy living room with a wood burning stove.

The galley kitchen is very well equipped, including a KitchenAid, and has spectacular views. You can even see the sea while standing at the sink or hob!

There are two rocking chairs looking out to sea and a large dining table, perfect for long chats after dinner. Outside, facing the sea, there is a large patio with a barbecue and outdoor seating for four, leading onto a clifftop garden.
